China has made remarkable progress in health care, and its people have a growing sense of health attainment. In China, the average life expectancy has increased from 35 years in the 1940s to 78.2 years in 2021. Infectious diseases such as smallpox, poliomyelitis and malaria have been eradicated. The main health indicators rank among the top among middle- and high-income countries. Over the past decade, the country’s ability to safeguard people’s health has significantly improved. The health and wellness departments have provided health management services for patients with key diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and tuberculosis, as well as key groups such as children aged 0-6, pregnant women and the elderly over 65. Major diseases have been effectively controlled, and the premature mortality rate from major chronic diseases is lower than the global average. At the same time, China has actively participated in the work of international organizations and cooperation mechanisms in the health field, such as the World Health Organization. Over the past 60 years, China has dispatched 30,000 medical team members to 76 countries and regions around the world. It has also carried out paired cooperation with 46 hospitals in 41 African countries and provided free medical consultations for cataract and heart disease surgeries in 30 countries. A total of 22 million patients have been treated.
